Dear Sal- years ago when I still lived in Ptown, you’d made “Easter” eggs out of sugar (I believe).
With them you included tiny flashlights lights to peep what was otherwise unseen from the outside.
I wondered how they would age, and how they could be best preserved.
I’d love to see them again. They struck me as so enchanting, secret, private and special.
Before I moved to Ptown in 92 I was living in Raleigh making ice cream.
We’d stick the fresh batches in the freezer, cover them with paper indicating flavor, and put a thick-ish rubber band around the entire thing.
Whenever it was time to flip flavors, I’d eagerly gather the replacement.
Removing the paper and the now-frozen rubber band, it felt so fragile and brittle.
My favorite part of this endeavor was solely to get to the frozen rubber band.
I’d clasp it tightly in my hand and waited to feel as it transformed back to a soft, stretchy, reusable tool. The sensation was delightful, and almost but not quite instantaneous.
Over and over I’d volunteer to haul the freezing cold, heavy, metal containers- just to feel that heat exchange contraction from the formerly frozen band.
Frozen in expansion, now collapsed into something soft, something with give.
I’m working on a companion piece to the work I did: Everything I’ve Ever Lost (boxes on a dolly that contained everything I’d literally and figuratively ever lost, with messages and gps coordinates as to where said item was lost or stolen, and the life it had post me).
This one is entitled: All The Things I Didn’t Need At All.
I’m still in the process of figuring out the best platform to auction off all the secrets that go with the items I’m getting rid of- gifting. I’m taking Museum style photographs of some everyday objects, but each carries a private story.
Exclusive to the winning bidder.
I have so many things I’ve collected on my travels, at yard sales in Ptown and up here in Western, Ma.
I’ve got lupus, so I have good days and bad days.
Ultimately, I want to work collectively on a Happiness ATM machine that’s free of charge.
Molly, thanks for the update! I'm not really on FB but I sent you my email so we can connect. This week's posting is a reply to your note above. Your project sounds very intriguing!
I'm in NYC for the most part, Provincetown a bit of the time.

Thank you for sharing.
More later.

Molly! I can't believe you remember that work! I have some related work stored in my studio—I'll open the box and see what has become of it!
And I so very much love your story about the rubber bands!
What are you up to these days?
Ooops. I replied above.
Brilliantly human. Moving!

I’m also on signal for more privacy.
I hope you are grand.
Where are you currently residing?

Wow! I can only partially think of you there.
I’ll try harder. Ha!
I remember your long leisurely strolls. How calm and thoughtful you presented.
These ripped the veil from the screen.
Oh how very interesting. It’s! A! Clitoris!
I’m glad my project sounds interesting. I’m a but flummoxed by the execution part.
More soon.
Warmly,
Molly
