Hongzhi's sermons are very special. Whenever I feel out-of-sorts, I read a few passages from "Empty Field" and instantly snap back to Bright Awareness.
I love them so much. I recently learned that Dogen carried a box with Hongzhi’s collected works back with him from China. This large collection was preserved in Japan, while some of the material in china was lost. It made me think about the relation of Hongzhi’s writing style to Dogen’s.
